    Overview

    HikingMountainsSome experience helpful

Some people collect stamps. You collect summit cairns. This is the proper Three Peaks Challenge: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours. It's harder than it sounds, easier than you fear, and exactly as satisfying as you hope.

Your local guides know these mountains like their own gardens. They'll get you up safely and down efficiently, which matters when you're racing daylight and your own stamina. No massive groups huffing behind you – just a small team moving at the right pace.

The challenge isn't just physical. Navigation matters, especially when weather turns or visibility drops. Your guides handle the route-finding so you can focus on putting one foot in front of the other. They also know where to push and when to ease off, which makes the difference between finishing strong and crawling to the final summit.

Ben Nevis hits first – Britain's highest at 1,345 metres. The initial optimism usually fades somewhere around the boulder field. Scafell Pike follows in the Lake District, where your legs start questioning your life choices. Snowdon wraps it up in Wales, often in darkness, where headtorches pick out the path to Wales' highest point.

You'll drive between peaks, which gives you time to refuel, rest briefly, and wonder what you've gotten yourself into. The satisfaction comes not from conquering anything – these mountains were here long before you – but from proving you can do something genuinely difficult when it matters.

Two days, three countries, one test of whether you're as stubborn as you think you are.

    • Start from Glen Nevis Visitor Centre. Headtorches on, steady climb via the Mountain Track. Summit before first light if conditions allow. Quiet focus and rhythm.
    • Return to base vehicle. Short rest, hot food, driver takes over. Move south through the night/early morning. Rest where possible.
    • Ascent under headtorch or fading light. Corridor Route or Wasdale approach. Completion in the quiet of evening.
    • Watkin Path or PYG Track (guide decision based on group energy and weather). Summit in daylight if conditions allow.
    • Back to base. Debrief, rest, reflection. Journey complete.
